Conceived on the first anniversary of the Gezi protests, Witnessing Istanbul (Tanıklıklar) brought together four playwrights—Öznur Şahin, Şenay Tanrıvermiş, Burak Safa Çalış, and Ahmet Sami Özbudak—to approach the events from four distinct perspectives. The project offered the audience an experience centered on remembering and resisting forgetting.

The project was first presented under the title Stambul Svidetelstvuyet / Witnessing Istanbul as a staged reading in Russian at Teatr.doc in Moscow. Following the reading, a discussion was held in Moscow with the participation of the playwrights.

After its Moscow presentation, the project was staged in Istanbul as a reading performance at Moda Sahnesi as part of the New Writing New Theatre Festival.
