Sandpit
2016, 50’
In Sandpit, Boy and Girl meet and, in a world they create far from the reality of life, do something they have never done before: they open up to each other. The Boy, who expresses himself through a “Batman” language of play and combat, and the Girl, who always carries her doll, learn to build a relationship within a fairytale-like atmosphere.
Still children, without any formed sense of adulthood, Boy and Girl begin to confront the consequences of their decisions. While life seems to continue as usual, they grow up. The “sandpit” they play in becomes a symbol of the childhood and innocence they lose. This encounter is perhaps the first of many unions and separations they will experience throughout their lives.

“While directing Walczak’s remarkable text, Enginay Gültekin opts for a simple staging that leans on the strong performances of Emre Yetim and Irmak Ecem Aydemir, who portray the Boy and the Girl. Their sincere and natural acting, capturing the innocence, purity, and naivety of childhood down to the finest detail, is highly successful. An enjoyable, entertaining, and at the same time very serious work. It should be seen.” Erdoğan Mitrani, Şalom
