When in Rome
2017, 75’
When in Rome, which had its world premiere at the 21st Istanbul Theatre Festival in collaboration with GalataPerform and Platform 0090, opens up the concept of conservatism—both in life and in theatre—for discussion from different perspectives through a familiar story of personal boundary violation, structured in a performative and audience-interactive form.
A young woman who lives alone moves into a family apartment building. One day, her boyfriend comes to visit. What follows is a familiar story about personal space, hypocrisy, and repressed sexuality. Alongside the characters’ inner voices and striking gestures, the lighting and stage design enable the audience to experience a story they recognize through an unfamiliar stage language, opening the way for new perspectives and experiences.
