TATO
GalataPerform staged the play Tato by Polish playwright Artur Palyga, directed by Yeşim Özsoy, with the support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. The production emerged as an important outcome of the collaboration between GalataPerform and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, which began in 2014 during the Year of Poland events, when playwrights were invited to Istanbul and a series of meetings and exchanges were organized.
The play opens with a funeral. Franio and his mother welcome the people gathered by the coffin of his father. From this moment on, the young son Franio sets out on a journey from his childhood to the present, recounting this journey to the audience. As he tells his story, the other performers bring his memories to life, taking on a range of characters—from an acacia flower to a bucket, a little rabbit, and even the mold on the wall. The house Franio describes comes alive on stage, and the past materializes before the audience.

“Tato offers a truly delightful theatrical experience—not only through its familiar subject matter but also with its fast pace, fluid storytelling, and outstanding performances.”
Şenay Tanrıvermiş, T24
“For me, Tato is a play I will remember more for its actors than its text—one I would recommend saying ‘go and see how a living bucket, a flower, or even mold can exist on stage.’ It is a production that earns GalataPerform another plus in my book.”
Eda Geven, TheMagger
“A very strong text; breathless in its performance and captivating to watch, with a staging that is different, creative, and compelling. A must-see.” Erdoğan Mitrani, Şalom
