Performance Days
2010
Realized in collaboration between GalataPerform and KargART, Performance Days took place across multiple locations: KargART in Kadıköy, and in Beyoğlu at GalataPerform, Kuledibi Square, and various street locations.
The conceptual framework was shaped around performance as an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary form of expression, with a particular focus on its relationship with theatre. Questions such as the intersections and divergences between performance and theatre, the oscillations between these two fields, and what performance art borrows from—or rejects in—languages of theatre, dance, and the “show” world formed the starting point of the program.
The program featured performances by emerging artists such as Reflex and Güler Aşık, alongside public space performances by Ayşe Orhon – Ömer Aygün and the Complaints Choir, as well as an open rehearsal of Genco Gülan’s performance centered on the theme of “death.” Projects moving between performance, theatre, and show formats were also included, such as those by Kainat Güzeli, Anne Weshinsky, Ümit Ilgın Yiğit, Evrim Kavcar – Çiğdem Kaya, Maskİstanbul, and the collective 22/11 & Damaged & SIFIR (Handan Ergiydiren Özer – Çağlar Yiğitoğulları – Zafer Aracagök).
In the field of interactive music and dance, performances by Gonca Gümüşayak – Şebnem Poryalı – Duygu Demir and Noland (Deli Köpek – Esra Yurttut – Alper Akçay – Günay Ertekin) engaged audiences directly. The dance program included works by Sesil Sar – Münibe Millet – Zinnure Türe, Atmasyon Dance Company, Dadans, Aslı Bostancı, Şebnem Yüksel – Burçin Elmas, and Nebahat Erpolat.
Among the music performances, notable highlights included Nasrettin Hoca, incorporating elements of Anatolian musical traditions, and Encounter by Mehmet Ali Uzunselvi and Emre Dündar, which explored improvisation with keyboard instruments. Interdisciplinary works combining music and other forms included Luxus’ live weaving performance with Fırat Neziroğlu, An.’s improvisation with typing and visuals, and the collective improvisation Seni Görmem İmkânsız by Deli Köpek and Gonca Gümüşayak.
The program was further enriched by theoretical presentations, panels, and discussions featuring contributors such as Zerrin Yanıkkaya, Mimesis, Handan Ergiydiren, Zeynep Günsür, Şafak Uysal, Aylin Kalem İşcen, İlyas Odman, Ata Ünal, Özlem Hemiş, Ayşe Draz, Yeşim Özsoy Gülan, Evren Erbatur, Emre Koyuncuoğlu, Aydın Teker, Gurur Ertem, and Şahika Tekand. Workshops by Gonca Gümüşayak – Tuna Pase, Güray Dinçol, Ceyda Erdemli, and Dorina Maria Harangus also formed part of the program.
As part of the event, performance videos Shut Your Eyes by Nicolai Galen and Small Talk – Hoşbeş by the Dadans collective were screened.
